This is what I’ve been telling people recently. If you can’t find one in the US these days, you are not trying.
Be careful with PS Direct
Main Post:
TLDR; PS Direct sent an out of region PS5 that was DOA and no one will offer support for it.
I ordered from PS direct a few weeks back when they sent out invitations. After receiving the PS5 and setting it up, it would beep once, flash blue, then nothing. Wouldn’t go into safe mode or anything.
I tried to initiate a repair on the PlayStation repair site, but it wouldn’t take my serial. After calling PlayStation support and talking with them, it seems the reason for this is because Sony sent me an out of region PlayStation and they deferred me to the PlayStation Direct online store. Well, PS Direct is impossible to actually talk to, and the only option was to send it back for a refund.
Hopefully I’m a one off here, but if you order from PS Direct, I’d check the serial as soon as it comes in before unboxing it. If it won’t let you initiate repairs, I’d sell it and buy an in region one if I were you.

Another thing to look out for- PlayStation Direct shipped me a refurbished console.
They covered up the “factory recertified” sticker with one to make it look brand new. Several other people have had the same thing happen to them. There is another thread about this problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5restock/comments/ygt3wj/comment/iujkocs/
I’m feeling pretty betrayed by Sony. I’d recommend buying from a more reputable, physical store, rather than PlayStation Direct.
PS5 Console is available now at PlayStation Direct. August 22nd.

I was successfully was able to purchase the PS5 Console today (5/25) on PS Direct. This was my second PS Direct event as they sold out before I got in the last time.
It's not shipped yet, so maybe I'll celebrate once it arrives, but I want to give a giant middle-finger to all the scalpers out there. I swore that I'd never give you assholes a penny. I haven't yet and never will.
Shipping from PS direct.
Main Post:
I was lucky enough to have been able to purchase a PS5 from the direct event yesterday. I was just wondering if anyone who had been through this before knew how long it usually takes them to ship? I keep checking for the shipping confirmation email, but it just keeps saying "preparing to ship." I'm terrified that something happened and it won't actually ever ship. I'd appreciate any info!

Any tips for the PlayStation Direct drops? I’m completely new to this and have no idea what I’m doing

Assuming you got an invite...
Here’s what I did.
I used my phone and clicked on the lobby link 5 minutes before the official drop time. Once the drop started, I was put in the queue. Started at > 1 hour, then dropped down to 24 minutes, then ticked down normally and I was able to purchase.
And that’s it!
PS Direct Success Tips
Main Post:
Yesterday I got an email invite for today's PS Direct PS5 event and did a lot of research on tips for success but had a hard time finding posts with just basic info on the process, so here's my attempt at writing the post I was trying to find. Hope this helps for the next drop!
The most important thing is to make sure you're logged into your PSN account on the Sony Direct store site ahead of time, and to have your credit card info ready (if you have it saved to your PS+/PSN accounts already note that it WILL NOT automatically transfer to the Sony Direct site). You can make a purchase beforehand and save your credit card info at that point, but if you have autofill on your browser that's probably just as efficient. If you want to purchase any additional accessories or games you can add that to your cart ahead of time as well.
The queue itself seems to be something of a crapshoot, so I think all the advice saying to use multiple devices/browsers/incognito mode/etc is superfluous. The invitation email says that opening the link early or using multiple devices might lock you out, just FYI.
The event opened this morning at 11am PST. At 10:45 I clicked the link on the email and was taken to a waiting room. I was asked to do a recapcha picture test and was then given a timer counting down to the start of the event. The waiting room had a notice posted at 9:05am so I think they open it a couple hours early, but I don't think there's any benefit to opening it that early, honestly 5 minutes before the event starts is probably fine.
When the timer reaches zero the page automatically reloads showing the queue page. It took about a minute for the estimated wait to load, and then started at "more than an hour"; but by 11:03 that had dropped to 5 minutes, then a minute later it was at 1 minute. This seems to be a common experience, the wait time always starts at "more than an hour" and then lowers very quickly.
During this time I followed a tip I saw about pre-adding the console to my cart (read it here). It won't let you complete the purchase until your turn in the queue comes up, but it's a good way to make sure that when it is your turn your cart is all set up and don't have to waste any time.
At 11:05 the queue page showed a pop-up with a link to the Direct store landing page saying it was my turn. If you don't already have you cart set up this is when you would do it, but for me all I had to do was click on my cart, follow the normal purchase instructions, and by 11:06 I was all checked out. A minute later I got an email confirmation. It was that simple.
Some other advice that may or may not actually be useful is that according to the FAQs clearing your cache and cookies ahead of time might prevent some issues loading the page; if you do that just make sure you log back in before the event starts. EDIT: also, be sure to turn off any browser extensions/ad blockers that might interfere with the site running smoothly. I usually use Privacy Badger and Adblock for Chrome but turned them off beforehand.
But yeah, aside from the random, dumb-luck-ness of it all the process is pretty straightforward. Just be in the waiting room on time, log in before the event starts, familiarize yourself with the store lay out, and be patient with the queue. Beyond that it's in [insert preferred higher power]'s hands. Good luck everyone!

Hello. Thank you for this. I was in the queue and when it was my turn, both consoles were out of stock :(
Is PS Direct the most reliable way to get a PS5?

Tips on how to get a PS5 (PS Direct)
Main Post:
Make sure to already be signed in to your PS account and they also provide free shipping if you have Plus. Also use nowinstock.net telegram notifications to know when to enter the queue. As you’re in the queue don’t refresh, just answer the random captchas that happen every few minutes. I had been struggling to get one but using these tips I finally got one today!

I’ve done this 5 times and each queue places me at a 1 hr wait time. Of course it’s never that long, but by the time I’m in it’s always sold out. I’ll never get this damn console
